Built in the good ol' USA in Lake Elsinore, CA by some of the finest luthiers in the western hemisphere, this Standard Plus HSS is an absolutely smokin' guitar!
The playability and feel of the roasted maple neck is simply divine. The satin feel of the wood lets you fly up and down the neck without any stickiness whatsoever, and it can be argued that Suhr has been a pioneer in making roasted maple popular in recent years. The even C slim neck shape is comfortable and thin without feeling like you're holding a toothpick. Access to every fret on the neck is super easy, so you can shred away all night long without any hand fatigue, whether you're playing chords or ripping creamy lead lines. The craftsmanship that went into this guitar is simply impeccable. The fretwork is phenomenal, and the action is extremely low while still allowing every string to ring out clearly (and with massive amounts of sustain), plus with the stainless steel frets you basically won't ever have to worry about them wearing out. The pau ferro fingerboard is a nice complement to the snappy and aggressive tone of the Suhr as it helps to ever-so-slightly tame that a little bit. The pau ferro keeps some of that nice, round, mid-range of rosewood while having a little more top-end response to it.
The pickups in this one, the chimey V60s and the hot SSH+ humbucker, have a little more edge than their Classic brethren's usual configuration of V60LPs and an SSV humbucker, but the Standard's set is still capable of dialing up a vintage tone with no issues while still allowing you to delve into some modern sounds with more aggressiveness.
This axe is for the serious guitarist who wants to play for hours on end, sound amazing doing it, and look just as good.
