Music Store Live is proud to present this newest Andy Wood Signature Modern T! It looks absolutely awesome and sounds like a Tele on steroids.
This guitar has a lot more than meets the eye. But let's start with just that - the way it looks. To get this new torched satin look that Suhr has introduced, they literally torch the swamp ash body causing the grain to pop more. They do this by hand, with a handheld blowtorch and then the grain is sprayed over with the satin finish. The result is a stunningly beautiful swamp ash body with a lot of accentuated figuring. This is definitely one of the cooler teles that we've come across!
The neck feels like something you'd find on a guitar built for shredding. It's extremely comfortable and lightning fast to maneuver around. The roasted maple feels luxurious and while the jumbo frets are quite large (which isn't this reviewer's favorite), the impeccable fretwork keeps everything feeling perfectly dialed in and you can really dig in on those big bends with no issues at all. This neck is a real playground. It's a ton of fun.
The pickups are going to lean a bit towards a more modern tele sound. That's where the tele on steroids description came from. It's still spanky. It still has that vocal-like single-coil quality to it. But these pickups clearly have a little more oomph to them. They don't sound vintage, and they aren't trying to. They will hit your pedals a bit harder and they'll hit the front end of your amp a bit harder than a traditional and classic tele. It sounds absolutely beautiful played clean and can handle distortion better than most teles I've seen. For such a traditional design, this is really quite a versatile axe and has quickly become one of our favorites.
