Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to offer up this PRS McCarty 594 10-Top finished in an Amber Burst! This guitar is extra special as it sports an East Indian rosewood neck and, the holy grail of all tonewoods, a Brazilian rosewood fretboard that is normally only available on Artist Package or Private Stock guitars. The rosewood neck is simply perfection! It feels amazing on your fretting hand and only gets better and better over time. It's simply one of the best feeling necks you can get on a PRS, in our opinion. And of course it's no accident that Brazilian rosewood has long been the most highly coveted of all guitar tonewoods. This guitar examplifies the sound of this tonewood combination in spades. It's extremely warm and balanced while still having plenty of bite and spank to it.
After Paul Reed Smith befriended and picked the brain of guitar pioneer Ted McCarty, the first PRS McCarty models came out in 1994. They incorporated many of the subtle but essential build techniques that Ted used to create some of the best electric guitars the world has played. After a brief hiatus from the core PRS lineup, the McCarty is back. It's a straightforward but effective design that embodies that classic mahogany body/dual humbucker sweetness with slinkiness from the shorter scale length. All in a body shape that will be familiar for Les Paul enthusiasts and single-cut players alike. The back is a little thicker for increased tone and sustain, and two of Paul Reed Smith's best new vintage pickups pump out radiant sound in every register. This is a player's axe that's built to be played day after day, but it's also an important part of the electric guitar's history. This one sports a gorgeous flame figured maple 10-Top, rosewood neck, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and hybrid hardware so it looks as great as it sounds!
Special Features
A few key specifications that contribute to the McCarty 594’s tone and feel are:
- A 24.594” scale length, just slightly longer than 24.5” and where the model gets its name.
- 58/15 LT pickups. LT, meaning low turns, which give the guitar a warm, clear tone.
- 2 volume and 2 tone controls positioned so players can roll off both volume knobs at the same time.
- The added versatility of push/pull coil taps for each pickup for more tonal options
- A Pattern Vintage neck carve, which shares the same width measurements as PRS’s Pattern neck but is slightly thicker front to back and features an asymmetrical carve with a little less meat on the treble side and a little more meat on the bass side of the neck.
- Tweaked Phase III tuners have an added set screw that pulls the tuner’s gear and worm together (while “locking” over the worm to prevent slipping) to promote tone transfer from the string directly into the guitar with as little energy as possible being detracted. (The tuner functions identically to standard Phase III tuners for re-stringing. Set screws must NOT be adjusted outside of the PRS factory. Making any adjustments to this feature may cause the tuner to stop functioning properly.)
