This stand was developed by Post Audio  as a super stable studio version of their  AS-2  ARF stand, which in turn was designed to be a heavy duty and reliable base for holding our ARF reflection filters, as shown in one of the photos you see here. 

The AS-5 ARF Stand is constructed like a small speaker stand, made of thick-wall 1 1/2" steel tubing with heavy fixed stationary tripod base and pin-locked height adjustment. It turns out to be handy for all kinds of things, including mounting near field studio monitors, smaller PA speakers, lighting systems and as an extra solid base for extending mic booms far out over the drums, for instance.

The stand has standard 5/8" mic thread at the top, but the large 1 1/2" barrel below the threads gives great support for anything you care to put on it. The tripod base has a diameter of about 26" and the stand extends from 36" up to 60".

The Post Audio Reflection filters are fairly light but some other kinds, like the SE filters, are really top-heavy and will wobble or fall over and have even been known to break the top right off their mic stands. The AS-5 stand is the solution to that and numerous other problems, such as mounting personal monitor systems, portable PA speakers, sequencers, drum machines, lighting and laptops.
