This is a bass player's dream. The fretwork is impeccable, the neck is slim from front to back but doesn't feel like a toothpick. It's comfortable even if you are new to the 6-string world. The 34.25" scale and excellent build quality keeps the B-string tight, but by not making this a 35" scale length you also don't sacrifice the tone of the G and C-strings. Sometimes C-strings on extended scale basses can sound a bit nasally and whiny. Like a dying cat (Gary Willis said that and we'd had to agree in some instances). But not with this Mayo! The C-string is still nice and full and harmonically rich while the B-string is tight and punchy. All the strings in between feel pretty great too! :-)

Growly, punchy, and snappy, this bass is great for funkers and rockers alike. The Aguilar pickups almost have a single-coil characteristic to them. They are open and airy with no natural compression to them. Great for slap/pop sounds or for pick playing. Fingerstyle, the tone is fierce - like a polar bear that just stepped on a thumb tack. The combination of the tonewoods and electronics make for a versatile bass that leans towards the brighter side of the sonic spectrum. Solo the neck pickup and you can get a good p-bass type of sound. Run the bridge pickup on its own for that Jaco-esque throaty sound. With the two pickups combined give a rich, meaty, focused, and open sound.
