Player's Perspective
Look at Ibanez's endorsed jazz artists and it's a who's who of the best improvisers on the planet: Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Ben Monder, and of course, George Benson. This 40th Anniversary is Benson's newest signature model. It brings a whole lot to the table for under $1,500. The sound is woody, clear and warm, with incredible dynamics and great sustain. You can get the tone pretty dark without sounding like every other rolled-off jazzbox on the planet: It always retains clarity up front that lets notes really cut through (maybe that's the spruce top showing off a bit!). The maple back and sides also help provide some brightness, when you need to dial that in. Throw on a touch of distortion, and you've got the perfect thick, creamy blues tone. The neck is super comfortable in every position, and the Florentine cutaway allows for smooth upper register access. Impressive build quality and great pickups top off the package. This is the perfect guitar for the jazzer or blues player who's looking for real hollow body sound on an instrument that'll hold up for decades.
