Essentially an L-2000 packed into an ASAT body and outfitted with a slightly slimmer neck, the ASAT Bass is one of the coolest designs around. And for a bass that sounds this mean, we figured we'd give it a flashy silver flake metal finish and, as always, G&L delivered a beauty.
It's all about extreme flexibility presented in the simplest, most stage and studio-ready way possible. Two powerful pickups are hooked up to a plethora of switching options. Go right from in-your-face funk tone to smooth, round low-end that glides along underneath everything. Rock, R&B, funk, pop, blues, jazz - this is an all-purpose bass. Between the two pickups, series and parallel modes, the two different active modes, and the passive option, there really are a ton of very usable tones under the hood with this one. The tone can blast its way through even the densest mix or can be warm and supportive all based on how you set the bass. Without ever touching your amp you've got dozens of sounds with a simple-to-use control panel that gives you what you need and none of the fluff that you dont.
This ASAT bass features an upgraded alder body with silver metal flake finish and a maple neck and fretboard. The maple neck is G&L's #8 Neck, Modern Narrow C shape, which has a satin clear finish and a 1 1/2" nut width for a comfortable feel. The satin finish on the neck feels like an old friend - nice and broken in without globs of gloss to slow you down. The fretboard is maple with 21 medium jumbo frets, and a 9.5" radius. For pickups, this bass is way ahead of the pack. There are two G&L MFD L-series humbuckers, which are powerful, versatile, focused pickups. They're wired to an enormous range of switching options. With some quick tweaking, you can get just about any sound out of this instrument.
