So no, this Jag isn't from 1964, but it's built as an accurate replication of one of the most revered years for Jaguars. Fender even brought this guitar to display at NAMM as an example of just how amazing their Custom Shop can be and this one really is a cut above the rest. It was immediately clear why Fender wanted to bring this to NAMM '19 and show it to the world.

When we sift through our YouTube video demos here at Music Store Live, we are always blown away by the quality of tone you get from a good vintage Jaguar. There is something absolutely special about these guitars and this '64 is no exception. It has all of the blissed out surf rock tone you would expect from a killer vintage Jaguar. These pickups sound fantastic and the color is really hard to beat. We give this wild beast a thumbs up and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a solid vintage Jaguar. The finish cracking in the Aztec gold finish is absolutely awesome and this guitar has a respectful amount of aging done to it without looking like it's been dragged down a brick road by a pickup truck.

Fit and finish are as good as it gets, of course. The playability is extremely smooth and the neck is incredibly comfortable. The nitro finish on the neck will only feel better and better the more you play it. The finish has some light checking for an authentic look, but you don't actually feel any of that while playing. As with the rest of the guitar, it's got all of the vintage aesthetics and vibe but with the playability of a new instrument. The back of the neck feels divine and is not drenched in sticky gloss. The nitro still lets your hand effortlessly glide up and down. While we expect this level of craftsmanship from the Fender Custom Shop, there are still some that just feel a bit better. This one had that mojo, which is why we picked it to offer it up.

It plays like a dream, will stop you dead in your tracks with its tone, and looks more beautiful than the lost city of El Dorado!

A short-scale (24”) instrument, blinged out with chrome appointments galore, the Jaguar turned heads upon its release in 1962. This Custom Shop rendition, the 1964 Jaguar Lush Closet Classic, brings the original into the modern era with slightly “slinkier” playing feel, classic features and unique tone. The offset, two-piece select alder body wears a Lush Closet Classic finish that’s been aged like a fine wine, giving it the look and feel of a well-cared-for authentic original, while the tinted, riftsawn maple neck sports a “ ’62 Jaguar” profile, along with a 9.5”-radius fingerboard with 22 6105 frets. The RSD J-Bridge is designed for buzz-free-performance, and the brass saddles are fully intonate-able, even when reversed. Packed with authentic Fender tone—articulate and crisp— the ’62 Jaguar single-coil pickups incorporate the traditional Jaguar wiring that gives it a distinct voice; not only is the famous lead/rhythm circuit (with discrete controls) present, we also included the bass-cutting “strangle” circuit, to shape your tone even more.

Other features include 3-ply Parchment pickguard, floating vibrato, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and wing string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
