This is an offering that looks edgy and is built off of the Suhr Standard platform but maintains a distinctively vintage and more traditional sound with the signature Thornbucker pickups. They're a great representation of the PAF tone that, for most, is considered the holy grail of vintage humbucker sounds. The Thornbucker+ in the bridge adds a slightly more aggressive and overwound characteristic to that traditional sound to make it more usable with higher gain applications. It's a great combination of vintage inspiration with modern design. The neck also has a bit more of a substantial shape to it and is more reminiscent of days when a guitar neck gave you something really solid to hold onto.
Together with the Thornbucker pickups, this guitar can really dabble in some nice traditional vintage tones. It's definitely not a one-trick shredding pony. Though you can easily saturate the heck out of this tone and you won't lose note definition or articulation, you can also get some beautiful crystal clear clean tones and even some slightly overdriven bluesy sounds. The Gotoh bridge will guarantee that you can wail away on the trem as much as you want and your intonation will remain spot on. The tonewood choices, hardware choices, and electronics all pair together so well on paper. Plugging the guitar in only reaffirms what a perfect combination this is, in reality!

While prolific guitar sideman Pete Thorn may refer to himself as a “guitar nerd” – his resume proves he’s anything but. His effortless, dynamic playing have landed him onstage alongside such legendary artists as Don Henley, Chris Cornell and Melissa Etheridge among others — and his debut solo CD Guitar Nerd garnered critical praise and landed on CD Baby’s top selling albums list.
Pete has been a Suhr artist for over 10 years, and has previously partnered with Suhr to design and produce his signature PT100 amplifier and Thornbucker pickups. Now, we are debuting his Signature guitar at NAMM 2017. The guitar is based off of a custom spec Suhr Standard model that Pete has used extensively in the studio and on tour for the last two years. It’s equipped with Thornbucker pickups (with pickup rings, a first for Suhr) and a super comfortable and fast Even C Slim neck. This guitar is designed to be a sleek, versatile tone machine with a stunning yet understated look that exudes class and rock and roll attitude.
The Pete Thorn Signature guitar features a Mahogany neck with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The neck is finished with our satin acrylic urethane, which provides the smooth feel of natural wood as well as protection from moisture. Pete’s Standard is equipped with our Even C Slim profile. Rolled edges and a 10-14” compound fingerboard radius offers a substantial, yet comfortable shape.
Thornbucker pickups are born out of a desire to give guitarists a humbucking pickup set that has all of the best attributes of the coveted 50’s PAF pickups… with none of the downsides. Pete’s signature guitar is equipped with a Thornbucker neck and Thornbucker+ bridge pickup.
