Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to present this Suhr Modern with a highly figured spalted maple top that we selected at the Suhr factory! A few times a year we take a trip out to John Suhr's factory to pick out woods and design some truly unique custom designs. This allows us to hand select the best of the best that Suhr has to offer in terms of the quality and figuring in the woods. Then, together with some guidance from John Suhr, himself, we sit down and come up with all of the other specs until ultimately, we have a completely conceptualized instrument. From there the crew get to work several months later the final product is completed and delivered in our hands.
The spalted maple top has some gorgeous, subtle flame figuring to it which makes it even cooler. Out of all of the spalted maple pieces they had, this was the only one that had both intense spalt figuring and flame figuring going on together. We thought this was well complemented by the figuring in the ziricote fretboard, which is subtle and dark, but still gives it a unique look. Then, flip it around, and the red tint of the mahogany back goes well with the darkened roasted flame maple neck. Along with adding to the cool aesthetics of this guitar, these tone woods also contribute to the overall sound. The maple neck will keep the guitar spanky and lively in the top end while the mahogany body adds some nice warmth and mid-range down low. The ziricote fretboard sounds like ebony and will be very balanced with a bit of some pronounced treble. The result is a guitar that can handle any amount of distortion or saturation you throw at it and it'll have mids to punch and highs to cut through even the densest of mixes.
Whether playing with high gain or a pristinely clean tone, the Thornbucker pickups are going to allow you to dabble between vintage and modern sounds with very minimal tweaking needing to be done to your amp or pedals. These pickups provide a more aggressive and modern spin on a classic PAF design. So they definitely have a vintage vibe to them while performing exquisitely well in more modern applications. We outfitted the bridge with a Thornbucker+ to give it a little more oomph when playing with high gain settings. That bridge pickup really can handle anything you throw at it. Meanwhile the middle and neck pickups definitely have a vintage vibe to them that sound wonderful clean or with some light bluesy saturation.

This Modern features a roasted flame maple neck with a ziricote fingerboard. The neck is unfinished and the feeling of the smooth, bare wood on your fretting hand is divine. Over time, the oils from your hands work into the wood and the feel of the neck only gets better and better over time. Rolled edges and a 10-14” compound fingerboard radius offers a substantial, yet comfortable shape. Stainless steel frets offer silky smooth bending and long-lasting playability. Every Suhr receives a PLEK fret dress, ensuring the best possible string action, playability and intonation. The sculpted heel of the Modern allows for easy access to all 24 frets. For optimum tone and stability, the neck joint must not be too tight or too loose, therefore all of our neck pockets are precisely fitted by hand, by expert craftsmen. The Modern shape has a unique asymmetrical body that balances superbly with the extended 24-fret neck. Fast, sleek and sexy looking, the Modern shape will feel right at home to players who were weaned on the popular and innovative shapes that came into vogue in the 80’s. The Gotoh 510 tremolo bridge features dual steel knife edge pivot points to provide greater functionality and years of trouble free performance. The 510’s steel block increases sustain and tuning stability. In this guitar, the tremolo bridge is recessed into the body to allow for freakishly low action.HSH CONFIGURATION
