The Cutlass was already a very versatile guitar, but to really be Hunter's number one axe, it needed to do a few more things. So aside from the traditional Cutlass sounds, this one also has an active preamp that provides a nice boost for increasing your gain by 20dB. In addition to that, this one comes with a piezo so you can even get some nice acoustic tones out of it or combine the piezo and magnetic pickups for a sound that really cuts through a mix and has an incredible amount of clarity and definition to it. You can run a stereo cable out of the guitar and split your magnetic and your piezo pickup sounds or run them all together with a conventional 1/4" instrument cable all going into the same amp or pedalboard. There are a ton of sounds to play around with on this beauty.

Born of tradition, class, and decades of refining a tried and true design, the Music Man Cutlass guitar expertly combines vintage sounds with modern playability and craftsmanship. The triple single coil pickup configuration will sound very familiar to fans of one of Leo's initial guitar builds. A snappy and trebly top end, paired with a resonant and punchy bottom help this guitar sit in a mix exactly where it needs to. The best part about this is that you can solo whichever single coil pickup you choose to and you never have to worry about that annoying hum. But make no mistake about it, unlike many "silent single coil" pickups out there which are really either 2 coils stacked on each other or 2 coils side by side (ultimately making them very tiny humbuckers, not really single coils) these are true single coils and sound that way. The silent circuit kills the 60cycle hum we all hate so much after the sound has left the pickups. The pickups are genuine single coils and they sound that way! The circuitry also incorporates Music Man's version of a treble-bleed circuit to guarantee that your tone stays the same even when your volume knob isn't dimed. You won't lose any top-end clarity as you roll the volume back.

The vast range of tones achievable on this is only to be outdone by the silky smooth feel of the entire guitar. The neck is satin-smooth and plays fast and effortlessly. The body shape is extremely comfortable and helps keep the guitar from weighing too much while still maintaining resonance and providing excellent sustain. The hardtail piezo bridge isn't something you often find on guitars with this pickup configuration but we really love the versatility that it adds to the overall package.

Much like the famous pirate sword it's named after, the Cutlass will slice its way through any mix so you are always heard with clarity and definition in your notes.
