Music Store Live is proud to offer up this limited edition McCarty 594 Semi-Hollow that is part of the most recent Wood Library run of guitars to show up from PRS. We travel out to Maryland a few times a year to hand-select every piece of wood that's going to be used to make these guitars. We then come up with the specs, colors, hardware, pickups, etc until, on paper, we have everything we need to make a guitar. Then we simply wait about 10-12 months for the master luthiers at Paul Reed Smith to build them and marvel at the results as they trickle into our shop.

Here's an exclusive Music Store Live Wood Library McCarty 594 Semi-Hollow with a gorgeous quilt maple top and one of our favorite feeling and sounding neck wood combo ever. The all-rosewood neck is simply divine! The feeling of the raw East Indian rosewood on your hand is one of the best feelings you can ask for on a guitar neck. Over time it'll only get better as the oils from your hand naturally hydrate and coat the neck in a way that makes it feel like a pair of well-broken, finely crafted leather shoes perfectly made just for you. It's as good as it gets for a neck. On top of that we went with Brazilian rosewood for the fretboard. This is the holy grail of all tonewoods for good reason. Along with the typical characteristics associated with rosewood (a warm and rounder tone), the Brazilian rosewood has a brightness and musical clarity and airiness to it that can't be found in any other wood.

After Paul Reed Smith befriended and picked the brain of guitar pioneer Ted McCarty, the first PRS McCarty models came out in 1994. They incorporated many of the subtle but essential build techniques that Ted used to create some of the best electric guitars the world has played. After a brief hiatus from the core PRS lineup, the McCarty is back. It's a straightforward but effective design that embodies that classic mahogany body/dual humbucker sweetness with slinkiness from the shorter scale length. All in a body shape that will be familiar for Les Paul enthusiasts with a bit more of a modern look from the double-cut design. The back is a little thicker for increased tone and sustain, and two of Paul Reed Smith's best new vintage pickups pump out radiant sound in every register.

The new semi-hollow version scoops out some of the mid-range for a sound that can still stand out and cut through in the mix, but can also be a bit sweeter and warmer than its fully solid-body counterpart. It's a wonderfully lush, smooth, and harmonically rich tone while still having plenty of snap and bite on the top end. You'll also notice this is over a pound lighter than other McCarty 594's. The tonewoods and pickups all pair incredibly well with the semi-hollow design and the sound of this guitar really is something magical.

This is a player's axe that's built to be played day after day, but it's also an important part of the electric guitar's history and certainly isn't too shabby to look at either.

The McCarty 594 is a vintage-inspired instrument that is at once incredibly familiar and effortlessly playable. Whether you are looking for rich, authentic, vintage humbucking tones or nuanced, sweet single-coil sounds, the McCarty 594 can seamlessly master both sonic territories thanks to the 58/15 LT (low-turn) pickups and push/pull coil taps on the tone controls. The addition of an f-hole and semi-hollow body adds a breathy tone and rich resonance to this guitar, providing welcome depth and beauty. 

The electronics layout, a few key specifications, and PRS craftsmanship combine in the McCarty 594 to create an instrument that plays in tune, is intonated the entire length of the neck, and feels like a guitar that you’ve been playing forever. The McCarty 594 and Singlecut McCarty 594 Semi-Hollows made their debut at Experience PRS 2018.

This Music Store Live Wood Library McCarty 594 Semi-Hollow sports some features not found on CORE or Artist Package models and all of the woods used for these guitars were hand-selected by Music Store Live at the Paul Reed Smith factory in Maryland. Some of the special features are:

PATTERN NECK SHAPES
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of our quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. These new neck shapes reflect modern tooling and programming that allows us to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce our necks.

The "Pattern Vintage" neck has the same width measurements as PRS's Pattern neck but is slightly thicker front to back and features an asymmetrical carve with a little less meat on the bass side of the neck toward the nut end and a little less meat on the treble side of the neck from the twelfth fret to the heel.

Our in-house guitar tech will inspect, test, set up, and clean all of our instruments on site prior to shipping. All of our instruments are guaranteed to be fully functional upon arrival.
