Player's Perspective

Music Store Live is proud to offer up this PRS McCarty 594 10-Top Wood Library guitar finished in a classic McCarty Sunburst finish. Making this one extra special is an East Indian rosewood neck that feels absolutely marvelously divine on your fretting hand. The unfinished wood only gets better and better over time the more you play it and the more the natural oils of your hands seep into the pores of the rosewood. Eventually, breaks in and conforms to you like your favorite pair of boots and the neck feels like it's really made just for you. It's a difficult thing to describe but rosewood necks will always be one of our favorite specs on any guitar.

After Paul Reed Smith befriended and picked the brain of guitar pioneer Ted McCarty, the first PRS McCarty models came out in 1994. They incorporated many of the subtle but essential build techniques that Ted used to create some of the best electric guitars the world has played. After a brief hiatus from the core PRS lineup, the McCarty is back. It's a straightforward but effective design that embodies that classic mahogany body/dual humbucker sweetness with slinkiness from the shorter scale length. All in a body shape that will be familiar for Les Paul enthusiasts and single-cut players alike. The back is a little thicker for increased tone and sustain, and two of Paul Reed Smith's best new vintage pickups pump out radiant sound in every register. This is a player's axe that's built to be played day after day, but it's also an important part of the electric guitar's history.

Special Features

This PRS McCarty is part of a special run for Music Store Live that includes an East Indian rosewood neck along with an ebony fretboard and headstock veneer, and a beautiful hand-selected flame maple 10-top. Aside from Wood Library runs that only Signature Dealers such as Music Store Live are allowed to do, the rosewood neck is a feature only otherwise only available on Artist Package or Private Stock models.

The McCarty 594 is a vintage-inspired instrument that is at once incredibly familiar and effortlessly playable. Whether you are looking for rich, authentic, vintage humbucking tones or nuanced, sweet singlecoil sounds, the McCarty 594 can seamlessly master both sonic territories thanks to the 58/15 LT pickups and push/pull coil taps on the tone controls. The electronics layout, a few key specifications, and PRS craftsmanship combine in the McCarty 594 to create an instrument that plays in tune, is intonated the entire length of the neck, and feels like a guitar that you’ve been playing forever.

A few key specifications that contribute to the McCarty 594’s tone and feel are:
  - A 24.594” scale length, just slightly longer than 24.5” and where the model gets its name.
  - 58/15 LT pickups. LT, meaning low turns, which give the guitar a warm, clear tone.
  - 2 volume and 2 tone controls positioned so players can roll off both volume knobs at the same time.
  - The added versatility of push/pull coil taps for each pickup for more tonal options
  - A Pattern Vintage neck carve, which shares the same width measurements as PRS’s Pattern neck but is slightly thicker front to back and features an asymmetrical carve with a little less meat on the treble side and a little more meat on the bass side of the neck.
  - Tweaked Phase III tuners have an added set screw that pulls the tuner’s gear and worm together (while “locking” over the worm to prevent slipping) to promote tone transfer from the string directly into the guitar with as little energy as possible being detracted. (The tuner functions identically to standard Phase III tuners for re-stringing. Set screws must NOT be adjusted outside of the PRS factory. Making any adjustments to this feature may cause the tuner to stop functioning properly.)
