Some pieces of art are meant to be hung on a wall... These are meant to be played! The 59er takes a traditional design that so many of us guitar players know and love so dearly and just adds a bit more finesse to it. Duesenberg, as a company, is very inspired by Art Deco and you can see that directly in each of their guitars.
The 59er has a few major differences compared to old LP-style guitars. The most noticeable ones are going to be its lightweight comfort and the 25.5" scale length. This is a guitar that you're going to be able to play for hours and hours on end since it's not a boat anchor around your shoulder. The 25.5" scale length gives the notes extra articulation and definition along with some twang that you'd typically get out of Fenders. But all in a singlecut design that looks drop-dead gorgeous and elevates the aesthetics of old Les Paul's.
Tonally this is going to sound like a vintage axe, for sure, while still being very applicable to modern sounds as well. The pickups are modeled after old PAF humbuckers which are widely regarded as the holy grail of pickups. There's a warmth and roundness to the tone that is absolutely beautiful. Whether you want rich and creamy lead lines out of the neck pickup or the surgical precision and clarity of the bridge pickup with some distortion, the guitar has plenty of twang and snap to keep everything you do defined and articulate. While we absolutely loved the way this guitar sounded, we were equally floored with the playability. The neck is extremely comfortable and the fretwork is as precise as we've seen in a long time. Right out of the box the guitar had super low action and no fret-buzz to note.
There's a reason so many professional guitarists go to Duesenberg in the studio and on stage. These guitars are particularly favored by studio engineers and recording musicians around the world. We also just happen to be huge fans of gold top guitars here at the shop and when we saw this one, we were instantly enamored.
Manufacturer's Description
With reference to classic electric guitar construction, maple and mahogany are our choice woods for the 59er. Its neck and main body is made from fine mahogany, which perfectly supports the overall idea of tone and attitude for this instrument. The body is then sound chambered to further improve weight and resonance characteristics. Finally, this is literally topped by a solid, arched flamed maple top which we hand select for a beautiful, yet natural grain.
Keeping in mind what the 59er will be used for primarily, we fitted her with two of our fine GrandVintage humbuckers, providing her with the tools to become what she was meant to be - a real rock guitar. Still, we wanted to give her the ability to deliver clear, transparent sounds. Therefore, in the middle position of the pickup selector, certain low-end frequencies are filtered out of the signal of the bridge humbucker, clearing up the mix and adding the pearly trebles we all love.
All our instruments are fitted with our own hardware, which you will only find on a Duesenberg. We design it with attention to even the smallest details to create truly unique instruments from tuner buttons to jack plates.
All our fretboards are carefully plek'd and finished by hand for optimum playability and the smooth feel they are famous for.
For the 59er, we took the same Diamond fretboard inlays we designed for the Starplayer TV DLX, making this one of the very few instruments to feature them.
Overall Condition
Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, tested, set up, and cleaned all of our instruments on site prior to shipping. All of our instruments are guaranteed to be fully functional upon arrival.
