Player's Perspective

Tom Anderson guitars are some of the best electric bolt-on guitars you're going to find. This Icon Classic model is a remarkably well-balanced instrument built with a staggering level of precision and poise. It's going to look reminiscent of other guitar shapes from the past, sure, but make no mistake about it, this is not your father's Strat! If you're going to rock a pink guitar, we can't think of a better instrument to do it with! The lightly distressed finish-over-finish treatment on this one is really cool and this was instantly one of our favorite Anderson guitars to roll through the store.

This Anderson Icon Classic can go head-to-head with any bolt-on guitar of this shape and style in the world (and we'd put our money on it winning)! No doubt about it.

We chose one of the lightest levels of distress for this that Anderson has to offer and we couldn't be happier with the results. Up-close, there is some light checking on the nitro finish and the very beginnings of some signs of wear in the normal places you'd expect it after maybe 10 years of use. The chrome on the guitar (hardware and pickup cover) also have a lightly distressed look to them. Overall, the relic job is very tastefully done and the thin nitro finish really allows the instrument to breathe.

The way this guitar feels and how effortless it is to play is indescribable... but we'll try. The Even-Taper + 0.030 neck shape may be our favorite so far that we've tried on a guitar of this design. The neck is still slim and super easy to maneuver on, but it has just a tiny bit of extra wood on it so your hands really have a something solid to hold onto and it feels great. While being far from anything we'd consider "chunky" this neck also doesn't feel like you're playing a toothpick, and we really like that. The fretwork and overall fit-and-finish are beyond perfect. The guitar arrived into the shop with really low action and plays like an absolute dream. As with every Anderson guitar that we've seen before, we couldn't help but to just marvel at this for a while when it first arrived.

Along with a standard 5-way blade pickup selector, the push/pull tone knob adds some really cool options when in position 3. You can have a traditional strat-style middle position with the tone knob pushed down. With it pulled up, position 3 has a tele type wiring where the neck and bridge pickups are active. That means that position 3 is instantly switchable between either having the middle pickup solo or having the neck and bridge pickups working together. This is a new and really cool addition to Anderson's electronics offerings. Combine all of that together and you've got yourself one heck of a Swiss Army knife of a guitar.

Sure, this might look like a familiar body shape, but this is sure to redefine your idea of what a strat is supposed to be. Vintage sound meets elite construction quality, modern versatility, and unparalleled ease of playability.

Special Features

Nowhere near a copycat of any kind, Icon lifts you on wings of unprecedented playability, tonality and resonance that are really astounding.  Giant vintage tones resound beyond normal expectations and unlimited string bends abound—push ‘em as far as you can push—still ringing out. So truly satisfying to play! It is the no compromise vintage guitar. But Icon does it in a totally iconic way, and with no vintage compromises. Icon has the look but not the limited playability, so all the Anderson attributes are soundly intact with the vintage visual attractions of:
  - Full-sized S-style body silhouette
  - Top Jack
  - Three numbered knobs
  - One rear strap button

So you could say: Icon looks just right and plays just right.  And almost every Anderson option is available, as long as it does not alter the time-honored look.

VA Series Pickups
The sweetest true vintage, staggered magnet, S-size single coil pickups ever created. We wind them to be full bodied and lush, without a hint of that cloudy, over-wound sound. Highs are unbelievably sweet and soft, always soothing and never harsh.

VA 7.2: Our most popular vintage series pickups. The VA7's slightly reduced pole piece stagger welcomes a fuller bottom end, with less potential for string rattle.
VA 7.2R: Reverse wound VA7 for hum-cancelling configurations.

HC Series Pickups
Within the sanctuary of a sleek and smooth cover beats the heart of a vintage lion. Mild to medium to hot output, HCs sing with a wonderful vintage flavored voice, depicted by focused midrange energy and enlightened by extremely musical upper-mids and seasoned with sweet, soft and soothing highs.

HC 2: Our other most popular humbucker, perhaps. Who wouldn’t love a medium-hot output package with all the vintage flavor firmly in place, wound to create a full bouquet of tonalities. Muscular mids with a smattering of lush and soft highlights so it is impressively musical, with never a hint of that “oops, I accidentally sat on a duck,” tone. Beautiful from all tonal angles.

Switching Options:
