Player's Perspective

Breedlove’s Oregon Concertina model is the solution for those that want a small and comfortable acoustic guitar without sacrificing tone and the fullness of their sound. The result of this all-myrtlewood Concertina is a bright and full-sounding guitar that should be able to hold its own even in a loud setting.

The myrtlewood is reminiscent of the tone you get from Koa. Lush, organic and shimmery, the sound of this guitar is as unique as myrtlewood’s interesting figuring. It'll have some nice brightness to it while being very clear and articulate. The body feels similar to a parlor shape but by having the wider tail bout the sound can really build under the bridge before being forced out through the soundhole and you end up with a fuller sound than you get out of most traditional parlors but with all of the same comfort and ease of playability. It certainly doesn't sound like a parlor guitar. The expert build design coupled with the sound optimization technology that Breedlove uses help achieve a new level of consistency in the acoustic guitar world.

The myrtlewood has the power and crisp top-end of maple but with a rich, chimey harmonic content all of its own. The harder wood makes this a guitar that you can strum away on without worrying about overdriving the top. It's great for fingerstyle playing as well, but predominantly designed for those that tend to dig in a bit harder and need the guitar to handle that. It's a great singer-songwriter guitar, for example.

The low-profile but effective pickup system makes gigging easy, and the bridge-pin free bridge design will let you change strings on the fly. Perfect for anyone who’s looking for a gig-ready, comfortable acoustic guitar with a big and full sound. Breedlove's neck shapes are a bit narrower/thinner than traditional acoustics and almost play more like an electric. The fretwork and craftsmanship is top-notch to allow for very low action, if that's your cup of tea. The 25" scale length will also help with ease of playing on this beauty.

This Concertina checks all of the boxes and is truly a fine example of the amazing Breedlove craftsmanship that you get with every guitar.

Manufacturer's Description

With our Sound Optimization technology applied to the power of the all myrtlewood body, we have designed a delightful small body instrument that is a joy to play and will make your music sound fantastic.

BODY SHAPE
New for 2018, is Breedlove’s small body guitar, delivering a surprisingly clear, crisp, loud sound. It’s 12-frets to the body design make it a joy to play. Extensive Sound Optimization engineering has resulted in a body shape that has a bigger sound and is more comfortable to play than a traditional parlor.

BACK AND SIDE WOODS
Myrtlewood, umbellularia californica, formerly oreodaphne californica, originates in the western United States in Northern California and Oregon. Myrtlewood offers a strong fundamental with a powerful voice. Similar to maple, it has a clear and bright voice with superb projection and sustain, and offers a full and balanced sound. A versatile non-traditional tonewood, it is a favorite for many styles of playing. Myrtle has very unique and widely varied figure – no two sets are alike. Coloration ranges from blonde to taupe.

BREEDLOVE NECK
Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
