The Fly Rig 5 from Tech 21 is essentially an entire pedalboard in one compact unit. It has everything you need - rich and dynamic Plexi-style distortion, boost options, a 3-band EQ, delay, and reverb. Everything is 100% analog, so the sound is always organic and responsive. It's divided into three sections: Plexi, Sans Amp, and DLA. The super intuitive layout with footswitches makes for easy live control, and at roughly 1/3 the size of an equally capable pedalboard, the Fly Rig 5 is the ideal stage tool. Read on for specifics.

Tech 21's Fly Rig 5 is five analog pedals in one small housing unit. Let's start with the distortion. It's Plexi-style overdrive modeled after Tech 21's Hot Rod pedal. The sound is throaty and expressive, with extremely dynamic touch sensitivity. With the Hot switch, you can add up to 21dB gain when you need a boost for your solos. The middle section is the SansAmp tube amp emulator. It sounds like a nice warm vintage tube amp. You can add a little dirt with the drive control, and the 3-band EQ will let you dial in your exact sound. The analog reverb in this section is lush and authentic. The last part of the pedal is a great sounding delay that'll add dimension and depth to your tone. Based on the Boost DLA pedal, this delay is modeled after vintage tape echo and features controls for level, time, repeats, and drift, which adds a random element to the modulation for authentic textures. The tap tempo switch will let you get the exact timing you're looking for.
