Mesa Boogie JP2C Mark 2C+ John Petrucci Signature Series Head, 2.M2C.BB
Player's Perspective
Mesa/Boogie has long pioneered the heavy rock tone. The distortion and overall tone oozing out of their amps has set a new standard in the industry. But in all of Mesa's storied history, they have never done an unlimited production signature model. They have, however, been working with John Petrucci for 30 years building him his favorite amps. So they decided it was finally time to come out with John's very own signature model and boy have they built an awesome little amp head here. The amp is essentially a Mark IIC+ with some minor modifications done to John Petrucci's specifications. This amp has that characteristic Mesa tone, that you might expect, and is very easy to use. It sounds great with all of the knobs at 12 o'clock, but also has immense versatility and you can truly start to unlock it's full potential once you really get under the hood and spend some time tweaking the knobs. The amp has loads of head room when you're going for a clean sound. It's crystal clear and can give you a sizzling clean tone for days without you having to worry about distorting it. The rhythm channel has some great crunch and will offer great tones to support the band as you chug along. Meaty and present mids help the tone to remain articulate even when saturated with distortion. The lead channel, of course, is where you just let loose and saturate your tone full of that wonderful Mesa distortion. Every single note rings through with enough mids to remain distinct, but powerful lows and highs to really fill the room when you're ripping away. All of the channels on this amp are dedicated exclusively to the voicing of Mesa's Mark IIC+.
