Player's Perspective

Chances are that if you've listened to your fair share of bass players, you've probably heard someone rocking a Mike Lull bass (even if, perhaps, you didn't realize it). Music Store Live is very proud to now be an authorized Mike Lull dealer and be able to offer up these amazing basses to you guys!

Mike's instruments are used by bassists in Cheap Trick, CCR, Pearl Jam, Heart, Death Cab for Cutie, Queensryche, The Aristocrats, and supporting artists such as Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, Allen Stone, Travis Tritt, Blake Shelton, Eric Johnson, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Bonamassa... the list goes on and on and on... The point is that Mike Lull's basses can be found on some of the biggest stages in the world supporting artists in virtually every conceivable genre. Country, pop, hip-hop, R&B, funk, classic rock, hard rock, fusion, blues... There truly just isn't any limit to what these basses can do. Some of the most discerning players in the world choose these basses because they know that it will never let them down!
This is so much more than just a high-end copy of a traditional design. Hand-made in Washington, these basses are the cream of the crop.

This M5V Custom is basically a modern jazz bass on steroids. The Nordstrand Big Singles are powerful and full of character but they still retain that j-bass vibe. They're a bit fatter sounding with more punch, growl, and definition than traditional single coils. They're fantastic pickups for any application where you want to make sure that your notes are defined, articulate, and can be heard as well as felt.

The Bartolini preamp also helps in this endeavor. Known for their tight, punchy, and growly bass tones, Bartolini's preamps are an industry standard for good reason. This bass absolutely kills in any modern application. Our first thoughts were that this is perfect for soul, R&B, funk, gospel, and pop music. But the truth is that it can handle distortion really well, too, and you can play rock, and even metal with this very easily. It's extraordinarily versatile.

Just to make sure that it could really handle anything you throw at it, the preamp can be bypassed and more vintage tones can be achieved in passive mode. With the neck pickup full on and the preamp bypassed, there's a very convincing P-bass sort of sound that can come out of it. Flip the pickup balance to the bridge pickup, leave it in passive mode, and you've got yourself your Super-Jaco sound. It's that j-bass sound, but with a bit more body and substance to it. Either pickup can really hold their own solo'd and, of course, work perfectly harmoniously as you blend them together (whether in passive or active mode).

The build quality is thoroughly perfect. High quality Hipshot ultralight hardware, a super lightweight yet perfectly balanced body, and spot-on immaculate fretwork really help to instantly clarify why these basses are worth what they are. The B-string is tight, punchy, and everything you've ever hoped for out of extending the range of your bass. The figuring on the maple fretboard is really pronounced. They really picked a gorgeous slab of birdseye maple for this one.

From top to bottom - this beast is a tone monster (and you can rock out for hours on end in extreme comfort with how little it weighs and how beautifully it plays)!
