The neck is extremely fast, thin, and flat. It feels awesome and the overall construction of it, especially the fretwork, are extremely precise and allow for this bass to achieve crazy low action. A specially contoured neck heel for easy upper frets access, absolutely expert craftsmanship, and overall meticulous attention to detail help make this one of the best modern 5-string basses on the market!
The Aguilar pickups in this compliment each other extremely well, eventhough they aren't both the same. In the neck position, the Super Single 5 is basically like having a Jazz-style single-coil on steroids. It's beefier and fuller than a traditional single-coil, but still has that airy and glassy top-end that is so characteristic of single-coil pickups. It can really get nice and woofy if you solo it and want to go for a more vintage sort of sound or a dub/reggae vibe. To complement that, without overpowering it, there's a Dual Coil soapbar pickup in the bridge. Again, you end up with what can best be described as a jazz-bass on steroids sound. Or, more specifically, in reference to the bridge pickup, a Jaco on steroids sound. The soapbar pickup is going to have some of that natural compression found in humbuckers and will be a bit more overwound than the Super Single. But that's perfect out of a bridge pickup since they tend to naturally have lower output and can sometimes have a thin and shrill character to them. Not this pickup, though! It's growly and punchy as can be and whether you're using it on its own or in conjunction with the neck pickup, it'll sit well in a mix.
This is a modern bass with a modern tone but yet, with the versatility of being able to be the bass you take to an old-school blues jam, for example. With the killer preamp and awesome pickups in this, you can really get a huge array of different sounds. And that's a great thing because the neck and fretwork feel so nice that you probably won't want to ever switch to a different bass again. Luckily this can be your main go-to instrument that can really cover any genre I can think of.
