If you're looking for an axe that has a decidedly modern J-bass sound but still possesses that passive vintage vibe, then look no further! The Mayones Jabba Classic 5 is a modern Jazz bass player's dream. The Aguilar J-70 pickups have lots of growl and snappiness to them. Mayones has pretty much made a switch to primarily using Aguilar pickups in their basses now. This really provides a great variety of tones that can straddle vintage and modern sounds with ease. The idea is that it's that classic 70's J-bass tone you've likely heard a hundred times (think Marcus Miller). Pair that with the Mayo 2-band preamp that boosts (or cuts) the bass and treble EQs at just the right frequencies and it's a recipe for success. The preamp is very transparent and hi-fi sounding. But if you want something a little more old-school sounding, it's also possible to bypass the preamp and play the bass in passive mode.

The neck is extremely fast, thin, and flat. It feels awesome and the overall construction of it, especially the fretwork, is extremely precise and allows for this bass to achieve crazy low action. A specially contoured neck heel for easy upper frets access, absolutely expert craftsmanship and overall meticulous attention to detail help make this one of the best 5-string j-style basses on the market! The B-string is tight and fat and all of the notes punch and have an articulation to them that will surely be appreciated by most any bassist (and front of house guys as well as studio engineers who have to do very little work to get the sound of the bass to sit just right in a mix).
