Player's Perspective

This one's for all the discerning bassists out there. Check out this beautiful and faithful recreation of what is arguably Leo Fender's most iconic G&L bass that he designed during his time leading the company - the L-2000 CLF Research Reissue!

The L-2000 combines unmatched comfort with versatile, powerful electronics, a formula resulting in one of the best all-purpose basses on the market. This reissue looks the part with hrowback aesthetics to its early days, featuring the old school G&L headstock and control plate.. Compared to a modern L-2000, the neck is slimmer with a more vintage-accurate profile. These may be the only changes, but boy, are they a welcomed throwback to the L-2000's infancy. One could easily argue that G&L's legacy would not be what it is today if it weren't for this guitar's time in the lineup.

The neck and fretboard feel silky-smooth. Open-position grooves are easy, and the upper register is very forgiving on your playing hand. G&L uses a velvety satin finish on their necks, so the wood still feels like wood and will never slow you down with sickiness.

Tonally, this bass sounds as an L-2000 should through and through.  This bass is a beast! It manages to provide seemingly unlimited sonic options and the powerful MFD pickups crank out solid low-mid presence so you'll never get lost in a mix. The swamp ash body also helps emphasize some of bass and treble response for a sound that is naturally slightly mid-scooped.

This bass can be run in passive mode, active mode, or active with treble boost. There's also a series/parallel switch depending on if you want fat and thick, or barky and growly. You can dial in your exact sound whether you play blues, metal, jazz, rock, or funk.

Item Specifics

The foundation of the L-2000 is a pair of G&L Magnetic Field Design humbuckers backed by the flexible Tri-Tone control system, providing the sort of versatility that’ll let you find your tone no matter what kind of bass line you’re laying down. The Tri-Tone system features a trio of mini toggles for pickup selection, series/parallel signal routing and active/passive operation, as well as a trio of knobs for volume, treble and bass. With all that under the hood, Leo gave the L-2000 the kind of chops that’ll fit in any situation, from classic R&B to power-packed rock to poppin’ funk. What’s more, the L-2000 features an innovative Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock bridge to transfer string energy right into the body end-grain for an incredibly resonant instrument.
