Sandberg basses are already very well known over in Europe and are now gaining popularity here in the U.S. for being some of the finest hand-made boutique basses available. The playability is just simply off the charts and the matte black finish, which allows you to see and feel the wood grain, is a really cool touch.
The Grand Dark is an awesome colaboration between one of our favorite bass builders and one of our favorite bass amp and effects makers. When Sandberg decided to throw a Darkglass preamp in these, it only made sense to extend the scale length to 35". It's clear who they're targetting with this and, if you like to drop-tune, add some distortion, and shred hard, then this bass is absolutely perfect for you! The pickups are powerful and punchy and that preamp is extremely aggressive and perfect for metal or hard rock applications. The extended scale length lets you de-tune without worrying about wobbly strings.
As with every Sandberg bass, this one is immaculately built and is a true joy to play. The neck is a dream and the lightweight bass balances extremely well. If you need something that packs some serious punch and attitude, this is the bass for you.
Special Features
Sandberg Guitars was founded back in 1986 by Holger Stonjek and Gerd Gorzelke. Since then, they have been producing hand-made instruments at the highest quality. This bass features Sandberg's California body shape. The body is made out of alder and the neck is Canadian hard rock maple. Delano pickups and a custom wound Glockenklang 2-band preamp, made just for Sandberg, round out the electronics.
