Anderson Guitarworks Angel Guitar, Sheer Royal Purple Wipeout, Quilt Maple, Rosewood Fretboard
Player's Perspective
Music Store Live is proud to be an official Tom Anderson Guitarworks dealer. Every single one of the guitars that we've received from the Anderson shop has left everyone in our store speechless and stunned. This Angel may have elicited the biggest reaction out of all of them.
This guitar certainly gives you a lot to look at before you ever even plug it in. The quilt maple top is beautifully figured and the purple fade finish is perfect from top to bottom. To that, we added the Anderson "sheer" treatment which literally adds some sparkle to the finish of the guitar. Perfect for the bright lights of a stage, this is a guitar that people won't be able to help but to take notice of. Be ready to have people coming up to you and asking you lots of questions about it. It's just one of those pieces. It's stunningly gorgeous if you aren't afraid to get a little adventurous with your colors.
The playability is out of this world! This is one of the nicest feeling necks ever made. It's thin but doesn't feel like a toothpick in your hands and the carve on it is just divine with that magical heel joint that is nothing short of perfection. The fretwork is immaculate and the action, right out of the box, was set really low with absolutely no fret buzzing to speak of. The ease of playability will slap a smile on your face that you just can't shake.
Electronically, this guitar is decked out with tons of usable options while also not being overly complicated. The HF1 and HF3 pickups make for the perfect humbucker pairing. They have plenty of output to retain definition when saturated and overdriven, but they're still smooth and can achieve convincing vintage tones and beautifully glassy clean tones. They are very nicely balanced. Think of them as modern humbuckers with some vintage characteristics still intact. The SF1 in the middle is hum-free, clear, airy, and even a bit vintage sounding. The middle pickup pairs especially well with the humbuckers when they are split, allowing you to achieve some strat-like tones. Run the humbuckers in full power to get a rich and creamy lead tone out of the neck or a scorching hot rock sound from the bridge.
Along with a standard 5-way blade pickup selector, the push/pull tone knob adds some really cool options when in position 3. You can have a traditional strat-style middle position with the tone knob pushed down. With it pulled up, position 3 has a tele or Les Paul type wiring where the neck and bridge pickups are active. That means that position 3 is instantly switchable between either having the middle pickup solo or having the neck and bridge pickups working together. This is a new and really cool addition to Anderson's electronics offerings. The 2-way mini-toggle splits both humbuckers. Combine all of that together and you've got yourself one heck of a Swiss Army knife of a guitar.
This is another prime example of the meticulous attention to detail that goes into the building of each and every guitar that Mr. Tom Anderson puts his name on! It may sound cliche to say this, but the pictures here really don't do this one its full justice. It's truly even more stunning in person.
Manufacturer's Description
Anderson magnificence in a 24 fret format of pure playing performance. The Angel is crowned and enlivened by its gorgeous maple top.
The Anderson Angel is:
- Gorgeous exotic wood-topped body.
- Unique Angel body silhouette for easy access to the upper-most frets and beautifully balanced playability.
- Comfortably sculpted front and back contours.
The absence of pickup rings contributes to Angel's more modern, clean lines but (as with most everything here at Anderson) also serves a higher purpose of elevated performance. No pickup ring styling enables the neck pickup to nestle nearer the 24th harmonic for the richest “24” neck tone obtainable. Lush.
All Anderson pickups and pickup layouts are available for Angel so you can outfit as you prefer and access all your favorite electric guitar tones—and much more—via our familiar and intuitive, multi-dimensional, 5-Way switching setup, which easily brings all sounds you could ever imagine under your command.
