The D-28 is an icon. The Bigsby name is perhaps just as much of one. Here we have ourselves a faithful recreation of the guitar that Martin and Gretsch whipped up together for Merle Travis. It's based off of the D-28 platform but with a unique neck shape and, of course, headstock design. The D-28 has been defining steel string acoustic guitar tone for almost 100 years, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a guitarist or group that hasn't been influenced by the D-28 in some way. Sonically, this is one of the guitars that wrote the book on great dreadnought sound. There's a delicious, potent low-end that you can really feel when you strum a big chord. But the highs are equally detailed, crisp and subtle, providing a wonderfully balanced and expressive acoustic voice that you have to hear to believe. The neck shape is perfect for playing those walking-style chords just like Merle used to. It's very ergonomically shaped so you have something solid to hold onto without it getting in your way and the maple tonewood that it's made out of adds a touch of brightness to the overall sound.

This faithful recreation to a unique Martin and Gretsch collaboration is a must have for any serious collector or just for that person that wants a really unique Martin acoustic.

Martin partnered with Gretsch to debut a second Merle Travis inspired model that ­­pays tribute to the artist and the guitar he made famous in the late 1940s. Merle Travis is one of the most important guitar players of all time and is known for his unique playing style that is still known by guitarists as “Travis Picking.” The D-28 Bigsby is built on the foundation of a newly reimagined D-28 (2017) and is crafted with East Indian rosewood and features a maple high-performance taper neck fitted with the Bigsby headstock. The maple neck offers a unique tonal quality that adds sustain and brightness and pairs nicely with the warmth and depth of rosewood. The interior label is numbered and signed by Chris Martin IV and Fred Gretsch.
