Player's Perspective
Breedlove’s Oregon Concert model is the only acoustic I’ve come across that uses nothing but myrtlewood for the entire guitar. The result is a bright and loud guitar that should be able to hold it's own even in a dense mix full of electric instruments. It reminds me of the tone you get from Koa. Lush, organic and shimmery - the sound of this guitar is as unique as myrtlewood’s interesting figuring. It has the power and crisp top-end of maple, but with a rich, chimey harmonic content all its own. Almost as if rosewood and maple had gotten together and had a tonewood baby... That would be myrtlewood. It’s great for fingerpickers or strummers and will set nice foundation for the singer/songwriter. The low-profile but effective pickup system makes gigging easy, and the bridge-pin free bridge design will let you change strings on the fly. Perfect for anyone who’s looking for a gig-ready, concert shaped acoustic guitar with a subtle twist.
Breedlove's neck shapes are a bit narrower/thinner than traditional acoustics and almost play more like an electric. The fretwork and craftsmanship is top-notch to allow for very low action, if that's your cup of tea, for fingerpicking hours on end without having to worry about hand fatigue.
New for 2018, every USA-made Breedlove, including the guitars in Breedlove's Oregon series, are now getting the full Sound Optimization treatment that Breedlove has championed and pioneered over the past couple of years. In short, what this means, is that each of these guitars is built as an individual. Every piece of wood is analyzed for its density and tonal properties. So, for example, the thickness of every single myrtlewood top will not be identical. They will each be built to the exact specifications that are needed, based on the density and other characteristics of that individual piece of wood, so that the specific pieces of wood being used for that specific guitar are constructed at their optimal measurements. This creates incredible consistency and you don't need to try out 20 different ones of the same guitar to find that special one.

The individual character of each set of myrtlewood presents art as well sonic power and clarity from the Oregon grown myrtlewood top, back and sides. Denser than Sitka spruce, we sand the tops thinner achieving a voice that is lively and crisp, with powerful projection and detailed note articulation.
BODY SHAPE
The Breedlove Concert is the original Breedlove shape. It first appeared in 1992, and has been the best-selling Breedlove body shape ever since. Designed specifically for the fingerstylist to be well balanced, compact, and comfortable to play, it generates a wonderfully articulate range of tone with an ample low end that is never boomy, but always felt. The unique construction also allows the Concert to sing even at a full strum. If you’re a fingerstylist, or are seeking an instrument to use as vocal accompaniment, this is the shape for you. The Concert is engineered to provide exceptional sustain with a pronounced bass response, both of which can be achieved with a light touch.
BREEDLOVE NECK
Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
ASYMMETRICAL HEADSTOCK
The asymmetrical headstock is featured on CM, Concert, Auditorium, and 12-String body shapes. This headstock isn’t just a pretty shape – it’s specifically designed to keep the strings in a straight, even line from the nut to the tuning pegs. The result is even tension, stable tuning, and ease of alternate tuning.

Myrtlewood, umbellularia californica, formerly oreodaphne californica, originates in the western United States in Northern California and Oregon. Myrtlewood offers a strong fundamental with a powerful voice. Similar to maple, it has a clear and bright voice with superb projection and sustain, and offers a full and balanced sound. A versatile non-traditional tonewood, it is a favorite for many styles of playing. Myrtle has very unique and widely varied figure – no two sets are alike. Coloration ranges from blonde to taupe.
