Player's Perspective

For the acoustic guitar enthusiast who is unwilling to make any compromises, we present to you this Breedlove Legacy Concertina! Finger style players will enjoy it due to slightly wider nut width and a slim neck profile and the dynamic response of the spruce top. Flatpickers will enjoy how the top can handle hard strumming without feeling like it's going to explode with muddiness. The cocobolo back and sides look stunningly beautiful and have a warm, yet snappy sound that is similar to Brazilian rosewood. Overall the neck actually feels slim and is very easy to maneuver. It's got to be one of the more comfortable acoustic guitar neck shapes out there.

The concertina body shape is extremely comfortable without sacrificing the integrity of the sound. You won't find other parlor guitars out there that can compete with the richness of the tone that this beauty can pump out. It's really the perfect balance, without any tonal compromises, of extreme comfort mixed with a full sound.

The Legacy series is as good as it gets before jumping into the Masterbuilt/Custom Shop offerings that Breedlove has. Built with the utmost attention to detail and a sound that is truly much more powerful, defined, and full-bodied than one might expect when looking at this small-bodied acoustic, this Legacy Concertina is turning some heads, for sure! The built-in electronics help to wrap up this beautiful package. For such a high-quality guitar, they made sure to install an extremely high-quality and transparent preamp in there that will accurately convey the acoustic sound of the instrument to an amplifier or PA.

New for 2018, all of Breedlove's guitars built in the U.S.A (including the Legacy series, of course) are now getting the Sound Optimization process that Breedlove has championed and pioneered over the past couple of years. In short, what this means, is that each of these guitars is built as an individual. Every piece of wood is analyzed for its density and tonal properties. So, for example, the thickness of every single spruce top will not be identical. They will each be built to the exact specifications that are needed so that the individual and particular pieces of wood being used for that specific guitar are constructed at their optimal measurements. This creates incredible consistency and you don't need to try out 20 different ones of the same guitar to find that magical one.

They call it Sound Optimization... we call it magic...

Manufacturer's Description

After much research into a smaller body guitar shape, the Legacy Concertina is our pride and joy. It sparkles with surprising sound. With 12-frets to the body, the action begs to be played with enthusiasm. Our Sound Optimization process enables us to sand our densest hard wood, cocobolo, to a thinness that delivers amazing power and depth. The salvaged Sitka spruce top is fine tuned to give a deflection that brings this Concertina to life. Comfortable to play, a joy to hear, and beautiful to look at.

BODY SHAPE
New for 2018, is Breedlove’s small body guitar, delivering a surprisingly clear, crisp, loud sound. It’s 12-frets to the body design make it a joy to play. Extensive Sound Optimization engineering has resulted in a body shape that has a bigger sound and is more comfortable to play than a traditional parlor.

TOP WOOD
Sitka spruce, picea sitchensis, originates in the northwest United States. Sitka spruce has been the primary top wood for American-made instruments for decades. It is strong and light with extended harmonic content, and it nearly equals the power of Adirondack. It offers a strong, focused tone with a solid fundamental -- perfect for flatpicking styles. When compared with European spruce, Sitka delivers warmer, more fundamental sound, largely free of overtones. Sitka takes a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. It has a straight uniform grain and coloration ranges from white to pink to light brown.

BACK AND SIDE WOODS
Indian rosewood, dalbergia latifolia, originates in India and southern Iran. Indian rosewood has been the standard rosewood choice for decades. It is often associated with the great dreadnoughts, and is an amazingly neutral wood that takes its personality from the player. Well-balanced lows, mids, and highs make it a natural for many styles. For the past 30 years, a vast majority of high-end steel-string and classical guitars have been made from Indian rosewood. It is famous for rich basses and a clear treble response with well-balanced lows, mids, and highs. It is a black-streaked wood with coloration that usually leans toward purplish brown, and then oxidizes to a rich brown color.

BREEDLOVE NECK
Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
